Feeling Not Quite Right?
Gentle EFT Tapping for When You Feel Overwhelmed and All Over the Place
Have you ever had one of those days where nothing is actually wrong, but nothing feels quite right either?
You’re not ill. Nothing dramatic has happened. But you feel slightly off-kilter, overwhelmed and your head feels all over the place, and you feel as if you’ve left part of yourself somewhere and can’t remember where. You start one job, drift into another, and find yourself standing in the kitchen with no idea why you came in.
Feeling not quite like yourself is one of the most common things I hear from the women I work with through Living Life Mindfully, here in Lincoln and online. I’ve had plenty of these days myself, too.
Why do I feel overwhelmed and all over the place?
Often, feeling not quite right comes from a build-up of small things rather than one big one. It might be a busy week, broken sleep, too many decisions, other people’s needs, or that constant low hum of internal expectation and pressure of ‘I should be doing something.’
None of these feels big enough on its own to stop for. So we don’t stop. We keep going, keep juggling, and our nervous system quietly stays on alert in the background.
Eventually our body and mind start to feel out of sync. You might feel restless but tired, distracted but unable to switch off, or just a little disconnected from yourself. Many women describe it as losing their spark, or not quite knowing where to start.
You don’t need to work out why you feel this way
One of the kindest things you can do on these days is let go of the need to explain it.
We’re very good at searching for reasons. Why do I feel like this? What’s wrong with me? I should be fine. But that searching, and the inner critic that often comes with it, can add another layer of overwhelm.
Sometimes it’s enough to simply notice: ‘I feel a bit off today, and that’s OK.’
That moment of noticing, without judging yourself, is a core part of mindfulness, and it’s where things can start to settle.
How EFT tapping can help with overwhelm
EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), often called tapping, is a gentle self-help practice. You tap lightly on points on the face and upper body while acknowledging how you feel. Pairing the two in this way can help calm the body’s stress response and bring you back into the present moment.
Tapping doesn’t ask you to push the feeling away or pretend you’re fine. You meet yourself exactly where you are. You might say something like:
‘Even though I feel a bit all over the place today, and I can’t quite put my finger on why, I’m OK. I can give myself a few minutes to just breathe.’
Then you tap through the points, naming what’s there: this unsettled feeling... this busy mind... feeling not quite myself... As you go, many people find their breathing slows, their shoulders drop, and their thoughts feel a little less loud.
Free 6-minute EFT tapping audio: When You Just Feel Not Quite Right
I’ve recorded a short tapping audio for exactly these days. You don’t need any experience with EFT. Just find somewhere comfortable, press play, and follow along.
You can listen with your eyes closed, in your dressing gown, with a cup of tea beside you. However you do it, it counts.

Simple ways to feel grounded when you feel overwhelmed
Alongside tapping, a few small things can help on not-quite-right days. Step outside for a few minutes and notice the air on your skin. Put one hand on your chest and take three slow breaths. Pick just one thing to do next, rather than holding the whole list in your head. Drink a glass of water, slowly and on purpose.
None of these needs to be perfect. They’re gentle reminders to your body that it’s safe to slow down.
Here are a few frequently asked questions about my tapping:
